I am thrilled to share with you the painting that inspired my new series: HEART TO HEART. This beautiful, gentle natured, buckskin horse belongs to my nephew. Recently I was searching through my references and came upon this photo. It was a full body photo, but I chose to paint his head because I liked how the afternoon light illuminated his face. When I put the highlight in Jimmy’s eyes, he jumped off the canvas and spoke to the depth of my soul in a way that I knew I needed to paint a series of horses. This was not a casual decision; it was deeply inspired by the profound connection that exists between humans and the horse, and by my brother, Jeff Patterson’s work.
